The Chicago International Auto Show & Chicago Downtown Amusements

By on Feb 10, 2020 in |

Ever since I was old enough to take the streetcar, when growing up in Chicago, I was sure to take in the Chicago Auto Show. Even back in the 50′s it was a great event traditionally held at the old Chicago stockyards.Of course, times have changed. McCormick Place is now the host facility and the event has taken on a much more international flavor. I have attended auto shows all over the country and none compare to the Chicago presentation with respect to glamour and sophistication. It is truly a first class international even attended by auto aficionados from all over the world. First staged in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. This year marks the 109th edition of the Chicago Auto Show. With respect to this great event, we at Gold Crown Travel would like to make this a special day for everyone joining us. Although it is a bit more costly to arrange a tour of this type on a weekend, we felt a day when father and son, daughter, wife, car guy and girlfriend, could enjoy this event without having work or school stand in the way would embellish the experience. In addition to the auto show, the day will include time in downtown Chicago for sightseeing, shopping, dining or whatever one would like to do in addition to, or rather than, the auto show. So guys bring your significant other along and let her enjoy the many features of downtown Chicago while you kick some tires at the world’s greatest auto extravaganza. Transportation will be provided by a luxury motorcoach equipped with restroom, AC outlets, and DVD. Refreshments will be provided both to and from the show. On the way we will have coffee, donuts, orange juice, water and a wide variety of soft drinks on hand. On the way home, refreshments for everyone will prevail. For adult relaxation and toast to a wonderful trip, a wide variety of refreshments will be available from our courtesy “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” refreshment cart. We are sure to satisfy most adult preferences. This is sure to...

Panama Canal, Costa Rica & Caribbean Cruise

By on Feb 10, 2020 in |

After hosting three exceptional cruises in the last two years, two to the Caribbean and one to Alaska, we were in a quandary as to where to cruise next. We explored many alternatives and decided on a cruise that would focus on the breathtaking engineering feat of the Panama Canal but also explore Costa Rica and the Caribbean that we have yet to explore.A dream more than 400 years in the making, the Panama Canal opened in 1914 and this epic man-made marvel changed the world in the process. There’s no better way to discover this colossal wonder than on a Panama Canal cruise. Sail a partial transit round trip from Ft. Lauderdale, and discover why Condé Nast Traveler named it among its top “Where To Go” attractions. Expert narration will enlighten you as your ship passes through the locks, and you’ll dine on authentic Panamanian cuisine. Ashore there is everything from Costa Rican rainforests to Old World cities like Cartagena that recall the Age of Exploration. Don’t miss your chance to cruise the Panama Canal during its 100th anniversary celebration. Many of us may have learned about the Panama Canal in terms of its vital role in trade and commerce, not to mention its strategic importance to the United States, but it is hard to truly comprehend the effect it has had on the industrial world. Its impact can’t be underestimated. There is something about managing to cut through a whole swath of land, a 51-mile waterway, and to do so between 1904 and the beginning of World War I, which remains awe-inspiring. The passageway shortened the journey between the Atlantic and Pacific by 8,000 miles; previously, ships used to have to traverse the entire tip of South America to arrive at the Pacific. Eighth wonder? You bet. And it can only be truly appreciated when you cruise through the massive locks on a Panama Canal cruise, highlighting the region’s spectacular engineering feats. Near the Canal, for example, the Gatun locks show the technical feat of raising ships up 85-feet by gravity alone before they continue on their journey west. The Princess Italia sailed through the canal in 1967, and Princess Cruises has been offering “ocean-to-ocean” sailings between the...

Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers. The serpent coils cunningly in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Majestic murals, great masterpieces brimming with pulsating colors and details, provide a backdrop for many of the settings. The area within the museum has been divided into unusually configured spaces that allow for personal interaction with each of the 160 exhibits. Several parts of the museum, including the stunning forty foot high portico with its cliff wall and floor to ceiling glass windows, flaunt open spaces and remarkable designs.
